How do gamers spend?

Game yields

Game Price (€) vs Downloads

Every dot on this scatter plot represents a game. Along the x-axis, you see the game's selling price; on the y-axis, the number of downloads or units sold. If you multiply those two, you get the game's yield; its total revenue. A grey line cuts through the plot, marking the average yield of all games. Dots that fall below this line represent games earning less than average, while those above are outperforming.

Each dot is also colored by yield: the darker the dot, the higher the total yield it represents.

Now, when comparing platforms, a few interesting patterns emerge. Xbox games show a noticeably higher average yield than those on PlayStation or Steam. This might be due to factors like a more spend-heavy user base, better monetization strategies, or fewer but more premium titles.

While PlayStation edges out Steam in average yield, the difference isn’t dramatic. What does stand out, however, is PlayStation's greater number of extremely high-yielding games, each bringing in over 500,000 euros.
