Where are gamers?
This section focuses on the geographical distribution of players. The data includes 249 countries and about 600,000 players. The entire dataset contains more than 1 million players, but some players on Steam choose to keep location data private, while on Xbox it's not possible to add location data to your account. Still, the dataset provides useful insight into regional player trends.
Global player distribution
This is a choropleth map that shows where gamers are located around the world. The United States leads by a wide margin, followed by countries like Brazil, Russia, and China. Richer countries also show a strong gaming presence, while poorer countries don't. Interestingly, even Antarctica appears in the dataset (with 446 players) though it's been cut from the visual for clarity.
Most popular gaming countries
This bar chart presents the same data in a more detailed format. It clearly shows that the US has the most players — more than double the number of second-place Brazil. This suggests that the dataset has a possible US bias, as other sources indicate that China likely has the most gamers worldwide. It's also important to note that mobile games are not handled in this dataset, which might also explain this discrepancy.
